APPLYING FOR A STAIRLIFT GRANT WITH Sligo County Council

Sligo County Council offer different types of housing grant aid depending on what type of support is needed. The Mobility Aid Housing Grant Scheme is usually the applicable grant scheme for stairlift installations. To apply for a Sligo County Council stairlift grant you must fill in an application form. How does the grant payment work?

€6,000

The maximum amount available in a stairlift grant is €6000. This may cover up to 100% of the cost of installing a stairlift in your home.

What does it cover?

If your stairlift does not cost the full €6000, the mobility aids grant will just cover the cost of the stairlift and installation. The grant also covers the purchase and installation of grab-rails, a level access shower and access ramps.

You may qualify for the Mobility Aid Housing Grant Scheme if you meet any of these conditions:

  • You are over 65 with or without a disability
  • You are under 65 with a disability or serious illness

The grant is means tested and you may not get a full grant for your stairlift. This decision is based on your eligibility for the grant and is determined by Sligo County Council.

What kind of information will I need to submit to Sligo County Council?

In order to complete your stairlift grant application form you will need:

  • Your PPS number
  • Proof of any income
  • Details of your tax district
  • Confirmation that your tax is in order
  • Evidence that the Local Property Tax on the house has been paid.
  • A report from your Doctor and an/or Occupational Therapist

A written itemised quotation from up to 3 stairlift installers (please refer to council guidelines). Please note, all installers must also supply a tax clearance certificate which Beechfield Stairlifts is happy to supply.

VAT REBATES

Additional to the housing grant that’s available, any user with a disability can normally claim the VAT back on a stairlift with Revenue.
